September 2000 I went to Long Beach, CA for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Space 2000 conference. I ended up playing host with 11 other people in my Senior AE Spacecraft Preliminary Design class. I got to drag people like John Glenn and Buzz Alderin to their seats and ask them what ever I wanted about the space program.
In addition to seeing and doing a ton of stuff in Long Beach and running around on Venice beach, we hit up the Sea Launch complex as well as toured Site 42, in Palmdale, CA where the Space Shuttle Columbia was undergoing refit with a new Boeing built glass cockpit similar to the 777.
